NECC 2009
June 28-July 1, 2009
I served on two panel discussions, and here are the links to the wikis for both, as well as an embed of the slides used.
Session Title: Library Learning Tools Smackdown: A Sharing Session for Teacher-Librarians
Monday, 6/29/2009, 12:30pm–1:30pm WWCC 151 A
Here’s the session wiki. Pay particular attention to the row links as well as the virtual audience links. Each panelist showcased a slew of tools in a five minute time slot that was counted down. We were not given any additional time. Once all five of us had given our five minutes of fame, we asked audience members to populate the wiki with ideas not already covered. As the rows’ pages were populated, we asked members form the audience to come up and share (as we showed the links, etc on the big screen.) This session was super fun and we had great audience participation!
SIGMS Forum: The School Library 2.0 and Beyond Tuesday, 6/30/2009, 10:30am–12:30pm
Facilitated by Marlene Woo-Lun of Linworth Publishing, the forum focused on how the school library is affected by the read-write Web. Originally planned for participation in this panel and forum were David Loertscher, Christopher Harris, Sara Kelly Johns, and Mary Friend Shepard. But Sara Kelly Johns had a conflict, and had to bow out. She asked ME to be her substitute, and I happily complied. The panelist, under the leadership of David Loertscher, each stood to speak for abut fifteen minutes, leaving the audience a challenge to formulate ideas and action plans for embracing the 21st Century Tools that the AASL 21st Century Standards call for. Here is my presentation, though because it is mostly pictures, won’t make a lot of sense. I essentially shared reasons for the SLMS to be the leader in modeling ethical and appropriate use for students and teachers. My challenge was for the group to come up with a plan for how to do that. Here is the session wiki with each panelists’ presentation embedded or included.
June 2009 – Upstate Technology Conference, Greenville, SC
Fran Bullington and I took our presentation form SCASL in March and tweaked it to target a broader audience of teachers.
Here is our presentation, done in Google Docs

Will You Talk to Me? Using Online Collaborative Tools
While I did not technically “present” at this conference, I did have a role. I was a “producer” in the cover-it-live blogging as well as a contributing editor to the SLJ Summit Ning. I also captured video from a late nght “reflection” session held in the lobby of the hotel at the end of the first full day. This was done for the 2008 School Library Journal Leadership Summit in Hollywood, Florida, November 14-15, 2008.
