Where are you on this ladder?
May 24th, 2009 by Cathy Nelson

I’ve stumbled across this image in a few places (Tame the Web, Twitter/HeyJudeOnline, and now Lucacept).
There has been some recent conversations of late about the relevancy of the media specialist, particularly if they are not media savvy. So I think this is a great question to ask media specialists? Where are you on this ladder?

This is great, Cathy! Nothing too involved or geeky here, yet I wonder how comfortable some of our teachers and media specialists are with these tools and apps.
I talk about technology constantly with my students. Even if some (many) sites are blocked by the district filter, I want our kids to at least have heard of online collaborative and creative tools.
My question is how do we reach those at the bottom of the ladder to drag them up if they are not reading all these wonderful blog posts and twitter discussions?
@Diane- absolutely! Use it in instrcution despite filters. If one never asks, one never gets. That applies to filters as well.
@Librareanne – Model, model, model if nothing else. I used to think I was all alone, but slowly over the last 3 years, I’ve seen LMS’s and teachers alike begin to embrace and use the tools. I don’t think everyone will be at the top of the ladder. Think of it as a continuum. And then strive for movement up. That is the best way to look at this, and hope you can facilitate the movement up the ladder.
What a great visual! I am trying to climb that last step to creating. I know how to use the tools; my primary barrier seems to be time. All of us are busy…how do you “creators” create time to implement and integrate it all? How much time does one invest in social networking, etc. at that end of the spectrum? Still learning to manage my time better.
