Recently some of my Twitter friends had a discussion (as best that can possibly really happen in Twitter) about roles in schools and bringing social media to the table. Darren Draper wasn’t sure the LMS was in the position to be the one:

Library Media Specialists must be proficient in all aspects of their profession, both the book/reading/literature component and the information/communication/technology one.
If not proficiency, then at least familiarity, with modern tools and resources is mandatory.
Anything less is a disservice to the students and staff whose needs should be driving the library program.

I feel passionate about weaving technology into instruction – why? Because it is where the students are. If we are to reach students, we have to use their interests to do so. As a NB Certified teacher, I learned (over and over) that learning must be made as real world as possible. How can we NOT use technology?
