No more bloglines?
Jun 9th, 2008 by Cathy Nelson
While I don’t understand it, I’ve just been told that Bloglines does not seem to be updating any Edublog posts unless I am an Edublog Supporter (which means I have to pay $$ to use Edublogs.). While I like the Edublogs platform, I do not understand this. It feels like I have holes in my reader now. I did notice recently that some of my favorite bloggers that use Edublogs were not all showing up in my reader. Apparently it is a issue with the feed from Edublogs and not Bloglines. That hardly seems fair since I like Bloglines. Apparently if you subscribe to my blog using the feedburner feed, it will come through to Bloglines. (It is the first feed listed on my sidebar.) So if you like to read me in a reader, there are 2 choices:
1) Use Google Reader to manage blog subscriptions, or
2) Use the Feedburner link in the upper right of my side bar to continue reading me through Bloglines.
I myself am going to bail and go to Google Reader, which I have not liked near as much, even though many of my friends use it. It also makes me just a tad put out with Edublogs again. I have webspace. I guess I need to look at moving on over to it, and host my own site. If I have to pay for it, it may as well be mine and mine alone. Bummer.

I moved over to Google Reader a couple of months ago and actually like it better than Bloglines now. The reason for my move was just to get my feeds set up with my igoogle page, but I am glad I made the move.
Since Im at g-reader for now, I may play with adding them to an igoogle page too. You may need to help me understand. Now Im being told the problem is Bloglines. But guess what? My feed did not show up in G-reader today either. What’s with that? Oh well I have it on a highly connected authority that it is being looked in to. Glad I know higher ranking people though I;m just a no body in particular in the blogging world.
Hi Cathy, As you would see from the forums we’ve been following this up with Bloglines for some time now via emails, support tickets and work on our servers.
They operate an extremely unpleasant and inefficient way of scraping feed content: http://ma.tt/2006/06/bloglines-dos/ and have yet to modify or work around it in the last 3 years… in fact they only staff member there who did help us has since left.
I’m sure that you’ll find all about these sorts of challenges when you set up and manage your own WP site, not to mention when you try to configure it to have the features Edublogs does.
And incidentally you don’t ‘have’ to pay $ to be a supporter, it’s optional, and $25 a year would generally cover only a few months worth of hosting.
Kathy, I was having the same problems with Google Reader that you have with Bloglines. That was why I switched to Bloglines! I actually liked GReader better. Go figure!
I did re-subscribe in Bloglines with your Feedburner feed and everything looks okay now.
