Oh Google, you are just too much!
Feb 26th, 2012 by Cathy Jo Nelson
This Tuesday I head over to neighboring Greenville County School District to be a guest speaker for the Greenville County chapter of the NCTE (Nat’l Council of Teachers of English).
My title and description go like this:
Web Evaluation — It’s not all legit
Cathy will lead a discussion on web evaluation and it’s role in research for today’s youth. Attendees will learn some tricks to “filter” out the misinformation and hone their own skills at “crap” detection. She will leave attendees with sources to steer students towards, and tools to teach students better searching strategies for more successful results.
I hope to have a little fun poking at some bogus websites. But ultimately my goal is to empower some educators with tips, tricks, skills, and ideas for teaching web and media literacy, thus making themselves and their students smarter searchers.
This little jewel was shared with me today–I’m not sure where I saw it–Facebook, Twitter, Google plus, or in my Google reader, but I’m adding it to my resources for Tuesday. I may not get to show it–time will be precious–but I certainly want to make my audience aware of it as a teaching tool.
