A name change too?
Dec 28th, 2007 by Cathy Nelson
Since I’m considering a location change, I’m dabbling with the thought of changing the name of my blog too. I Googled TechnoTuesday, and found a rather comical but raunchy site (which i won’t link to here). My blog was born October 1, 2006 on Blogger[correction-July 2006], but I moved it to Edublogs October 31, 2006, for fear of it being blocked at my school. In researching the other TechnoTuesday, it was begun January 2006, but I think only in print format for magazines, which the blog author lists. It was launched as a web blog later, and the copyright at the bottom indicates 2007. I don’t know if that means the blog itself came to fruition sometime in 2007, or if the most recent rendition of the blog was created in 2007. Either way, I don’t want to be connected in any way, shape, or form to that material. I’m not saying the material is bad—just not representative of me or my personality/moral standards. And since the author of that blog has seen to it that a domain is named TechnoTuesday, I don’t think I “want” to be TechnoTuesday anymore. OUCH! So, I’m brainstorming for a name change before I make the jump to my own domain. Anyone have any suggestions?

It’s funny how we become attached to a name. I came up with my blog name somewhat randomly (Kevin’s Meandering Mind) although I knew it would be a place for exploration all over the map. And it has, probably to the detriment of my (two) readers (including my dad — ha).
I’m sorry I don’t have a name for you but I am confident something will sit right in your mind and you will be relaunched.
Good luck
Kevin
Oh
I just googled the “other” technotuesday and now I see why you may want to change things a bit.

It seems that http://www.cathyjonelson.com is not taken as of yet. Remember that with bluehost you get a free domain name that becomes the root of your account, so you could make that your principle page (for folks looking for you, conferences, etc) and you could have blog.cathyjonelson.com as the blog, moodle.cathyjonelson.com etc etc etc. Additionally with bluehost you can host as many subdomains as you like, and as many addon domains (as long as you pay the $10 per year) so you could have cathyjorocks.com on the same account.
Good luck in the decision!

OKay–yes, I am thinking cathyjonelson.something. But I still want to redefine my blog name. Thans for all your help!
Be careful and write all possibilities before you actually buy the domain — or LOL, after 10 years, you might find you have a site called Technospud and you really wanted JLWAGNER.com or something that defines YOU. (sometimes a cute name, might be outgrown in a few years………)
And because of that……..
I would suggest that you buy the cathyjonelson.com name — your blog can be anything you wish off that — such as cathyjonelson.com/technotuesday — etc.
It is a bit decision — but remember that your name will drive them to the site. And it won’t be hard for people to remember your website –
Once you get them to your site — then you can direct them any way you wish.
Can’t wait to get this going!!

You scared me for a minute. When you said you were looking to change locations, I thought you were talking about leaving HCS! Imagine my relief as I read on. I will see what I can come up with as far as possible suggestions for a new name – and now I will go take a look at the other TT!

CathyJo – I can’t believe we were thinking about the same thing. I am debating about mstina, but mstina.com is taken. I thought about my name tinasteele.com, but it’s taken. I was afraid if I start putting in my middle initial it would get too complicated. I am still feeling frustrated. You received some good comments that have helped me. Let me know what you decide on and if I find something that works, I will let you know too!
I, too, am thinking of leaving my blog host and renaming my blog – http://edtechlearning.weebly.com/1/post/2007/12/contemplating-a-new-blog-host.html
I was thinking of using my last name, Robb, and get a domain like blogrobb or blogorobb but like Jennifer said, is that too cutesy? It’s not an easy decision as you don’t want to regret your decision after you put all the work into the changeover.
BTW, you’ll shortly be able to have an edublogs blog (i.e. one hosted by us) at your own domain (i.e. not xxxxxx.edublogs.org but rather xxxx.com)… as well as lots of other nice treats
Well James–that is good news indeed!
