Meet My Award Winning Reader!
Jun 1st, 2010 by Cathy Jo Nelson
(Note to Bobby Newman of from Libraries and Transliteracy: Sorry, I shamelessly copied some of your post!!)
Salem Press recently announced the winners of it’s Library Blog Awards and we were excited to learn that this blog, Libraries and Transliteracy was first place in the General Blogs category. First, second and third place awards were given in five categories: General Interest Blogs, Quirky Blogs, Academic Library Blogs, Public Library Blogs and School Library Blogs.
About the Awards
Blogs about libraries have spread across the web. There are (literally) hundreds of people writing about books, libraries, librarians and related subjects. If you count the blogs that come from specific institutions, spreading local news, there are thousands of the things. Some are funny. Some are brilliant. Others… aren’t.
This area of our website is devoted to blogosphere excellence. Salem (and the bloggers and librarians who are helping with this effort) are attempting to promote good blogs generally and draw attention to interesting and provocative news and opinion as it appears. To that end we will:
* Reward and celebrate blogs about libraries and library issues
* Maintain a (reasonably) accurate listing of blogs so librarians
* Develop a site that points out ongoing excellence as it appears.
THE WINNERS
The winners in each of the five categories of “topical” library blogging we established are:
General Library Blogs
* First place: Libraries and Transliteracy
* Second place: Centered Librarian
* Third place: Librarian.net
Quirky Library Blogs

* Second place: Library History Buff
* Third place: Going Green At Your Library
* Another Third place: Judge a Book by its Cover

<End of SHAMELESS Copying!! (I think some of this came directly from the Salem Press site too.)>
Now some of my own observations:
- How did my two favorite blogs, Buffy Hamilton’s The Unquiet Librarian and Gwyneth Jones’ Library Media Tech Musings NOT make it in the top three? They are FANTASTIC!!
- This truly represents my Google Reader, so I guess you could say I sport an award winning reader!! I can pick ‘em!
KUDOS to the three SC Bloggers listed–all three I might add sporting gold stars–and they are: me with this blog, Fran Bullington’s Informania, and Heather Loy’s Tech Tips & Timely Tidbits!

Just in time for summer reading! Some new-to-me blogs to check out. Thanks for sharing these with us, Cathy.

This.
Seriously, I’m kinda wondering that myself. But I don’t think it takes anything away from them either.
