I was asked recently to be a part of a ISTE-SIGMS sponsored webinar centered on helping librarians make that decision to get in the fray. Is this an easy process? What are the challenges? Where is there help available? What resources (people and literature) can I connect to that are helpful?
Why should I?
Many candidates have these questions long before they make the commitment and sign on a dotted line to “go for it.” But I want those who are contemplating the journey to know that the benefits are lived out long after the journey ends. My favorite fringe benefit is how every professional thought sort of goes automatically through that “nb” filter, causing me to constantly consider things like how is this going to benefit my students, what went right, what went wrong, and how could I do this better next time? I would not trade the experiences I gained from taking my journey, and I freely give back to those who ask me for help in their attempt. Why? Because I know without a shadow of doubt this process will make the person a stronger, better teacher.
Here are two friends who I’ve worked with in some capacity to convince you as well:

The webinar will offer an overview of the certification process, share a range of resources available for candidates, and describe ways media specialists can begin work towards certification over summer break
