But it’s the 21st Century

Well, well, well. As I was talking to students about fair use and how much of a song they could use in their English video project, I found myself going into an explanation of Creative Commons. I even said to their teacher, we need another class on just this topic, as these kids were challenging me with scenarios to debate –dancing around the copyright issue. Thanks to Bill Gaskins, a fellow SC Blogger, and my mentee (Angie Ferguson) working on her Library National Board portfolios, I now have something to take back and challenge their thinking once again. I just LOVE stirring the pot and hearing students mesh through discussions and show me that yeah, they may just about get it. As one student said the other day, “but this is the 21st Century!” He wants to embrace this thing known as creative commons, just doesn’t have the term for it yet. We need to revisit our conversation. I think I’ll use BOTH of these with his class.

Stir that pot! “Double, double toil and trouble/ Fire burn, and cauldron bubble!”
