Do your PLN-Civic Duty: VOTE
Dec 9th, 2009 by Cathy Nelson
The 2009 Edublog Award Nominee list has been finalized. I’m very overwhelmed this year at how many nominees run across the 19 categories. This tells me that the blogosphere is growing (and so is my reader!) If you are new at using an RSS reader, here is your chance to fill it with the cream of the crop across education. I for one will be adding those I’m not already subscribed, and will be reading and assessing which folder to place them in as well as which are keepers or not, depending on my tastes and interests. As always, some feed my mind and challenge my thinking, so I’m excited to have new material to add.
The times call for changes
Look how the award program has grown–in categories as well as how many nominees:
- 2004: 10 categories
- 2005: 11 categories
- 2006: 12 categories
- 2007: 14 categories
- 2008: 16 categories
- 2009: 19 categories
The categories themselves have changed annually, which shows how those who network in web 2.0 avenues have evolved and expanded their virtual boundaries across the tools. It really was exciting to see the addition of two categories centered around the use of Twitter this year. It seems that each year there has been a growth in the number to choose from in the election. I’m still a hair disappointed, as last year I recommended a new category, that of administrators who blog. While several of the admin bloggers I read have made the ballot in other categories, I really think our administrators need a category too. So I will be making that recommendation again this year. Hopefully others in the blogosphere will also campaign for the addition.
Libraries have ALWAYS been there!
I am pleased though to say that libraries have been represented every year since the Eddies began! The only problem is our category is so broad, and we have a mixture of public librarians, academic librarians, Higher Ed librarians, School librarians, and for the first time this year even School Library blogs to consider when voting. Ah well, at least we are represented. Hey, just in case you did not know, my blog here is nominated too, and this is my third nomination in a row. I was nominated in 2007 and 2008 too. I did not win either year, but I still say WOW, it’s enough to be nominated. I must thank anyone and everyone who nominated me again. Thanks so much.
Go ahead and vote!
So now I’m on my way over to the site to vote. To participate in the election, click here.

Pleased to see so many that I recognize. And may I say that I owe my stretching into the world of RSS and PLNs to you. You are the source of my inspiration to try new things and “blaze” new trails to share with those over whom I have some sort of influence. Thank you for drawing me into the bigger world of Techno outside of our little ol’ SC. Thank you for helping me teeter on the cutting edge. I have miles to go, but I’m coming along behind you & Heather & Fran and so many others. So, LEAD ON O’ BRAVE & FEARLESS ONES !!!
OMG Cathy, you’re the BEST! i am so like Wayne in Wayne’s World “I’m not worthy” to be nominated with the likes of you & Buffy, babe!!!! YAY Librarians!!!!
