I still love this quote attributed to Mitch Kapor: “Getting information off the Internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant.” I found a great image on Flickr that placed this quote over a gushing hydrant, and I use it for my FB profile pic.

Thanks for posting this Cathy and for adding it to Facebook. It is probably getting more attention now that you’ve blogged about it then it did 10 years ago when it was first published. I will be remembering this list as the librarians in my district present what we do to the school board this week.

Thanks for this, Cathy! It needs to be added to advocacy toolkits as people fight to retain school library positions, their own and/or others. I will make sure it is brought to the attention of the NY state school librarians–and my Mansfield students.

I have to add this. After some digging I found the poster pictured in this post is actually ten years old and appeared in American Libraries in April 2001. The author is Dr. Mark Herring from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC. I am returning to my post to add this citation:

Thank you for sharing this article. I am an experienced School Library Media Specialist and have brought a dying high school library program up to the 21st century in the short course of the 2010-2011 school year. The district that employes me is under state control and they have decided that my position has to be “abolished” in order to save money. Thank you so much.
